Undocking laptop on windows 7

I have the same question Report abuse. Details required :. Cancel Submit. Geethu B Moderator. Hi Amy, Undocking a portable computer while it is in either standby mode or hibernate mode can result in data loss and system instability. What is the make and model of the computer? I would suggest you to refer the steps in the article and check if it helps.

This is a lame answer! We have a similar issue and NO, we don't provide the wireless passwords to staff. Windows should connect to the first saved wireless network in range with the saved password after undocking but doesn't or if going from wireless back to docked it also may not reconnect and then the user cannot access internal or external resources.

Is there a way to automatically remove the entry in DHCP when a connection is lost when switching from wired to wireless? Just an idea. Just because one answer doesn't seem to fit your specific issue does not make it a lame answer. Please remember that the world does not revolve around you and your specific problem of the day before blasting someone else trying to help someone over a year ago.

I mean, It would be a problem for a wireless adapter to obtain an IP address and DNS settings if the wireless adapter will not connect to the network. If I remember correctly, wireless adapters need to establish a connection before actually communication over said connection. Maybe we should take a survey and find out how many admins share the wireless passwords with staff?

In fact seeing where you work do you share your wireless passwords with staff or how are they managed? I'm not sure what your problem is with me and my responses but seeing as how you have very few contributions to the community and near non-existant helpful and best answers I can only guess that you are here to flame long time community members that actually contribute and try to pick fights with us.

Going back to my only post in this thread, made over a year ago, if you actually READ what I said, I never suggested that an end user have a password to an enterprise wireless access point. Your assumption that I was replying to an end user is no fault of mine.

Spiceworks is a community of IT Professionals, not end users. It is fairly safe to say my reply was valid since I would have been addressing an IT support staff member, System Admin, Network Admin, or helpdesk employee. As for where I work? Well, we do not use wireless access points here so it's a non-issue.

However, I do look forward to you posting the results of your survey. I'm sure if the right questions are properly worded, even you would be surprised at the answers. Bryan, perhaps your being defensive?

So there is no way to undock win 7 except putting the laptop in sleep mode? Click Undock. Additional considerations Undock appears on the Shutdown Options menu only if the computer is Advanced Configuration and Power Interface ACPI -enabled and recognized as a portable computer in a docking station. Some computers have an eject button on the docking station.
