Enable remote desktop windows vista home premium service pack 2

Then to top it all off, I needed a static IP to make it work. Both are false. Here is how I made it all work. Download a patch for Windows Vista Home Premium. I believe the provider of my batch file was greenlight? Make sure to save this file in the temp file. Go to files on your computer ie. Right click on the start ribbon on your desktop screen. Select classic this makes things easier. You now have RUN listed on your start menu.

From there you can select reboot in safe mode. Note you will need to do this again and turn off Boot in safe mode when you are done with the installation otherwise you will only boot in safe mode. Once the computer reboots try extracting again.

Make sure to research this if you are having issues. You do not want someone else controlling your remote access. It can create problems if it is turned off read below. You will also need to go into the control panel , select system, remote settings, enable connections for Remote desktop. Next the router. You want to go to the router You will need to log into your router. Once you are into the router, you will select applications and gaming.

You will notice port forwarding appears. Now for the IP address make it Scroll down to Static DNS:1 and input that address we used in port forwarding You can exit the router now.

Make sure you have saved. Time to setup your computer to read this connection. So right click the computer screen with the globe in front of it on the bottom right of your screen. Select Network and Sharing Center. This should open a screen, select manage network connections on the right. Now change the automatically find to input this IP and enter that static IP you created Use the other two of the three or if you only have two then use them but they should be different that your created static IP.

One thing to keep in my is that your connection will be the IP of the router. So if you are trying to remote desktop connect to your network, use the IP from the status screen of the router. You may occasionally have to check to see if your IP address has been changed since service providers can change them if you are not signed up for a static IP address. This can cause connection issues. You may need to perform the take own again. See if says listening. If not, then you have not configured the router correctly or the firewall etc.

If you are using Windows Mobile 6. Not sure why this is but if you find a fix let me know. Hope this helps and people get this to work first try.

I got there by googling everything so you can find more extensive answers out there on specific questions or call an IT buddy. Again, you may want to research if you are still having issues. There are hacks to make vista do remote desktop but team viewer works for me. I like this software when it is set up for me, but the set-up is almost impenetrable for the layperson. That said, I know these are targeted at the more savvy users, but I think they are hurting their market with the difficult set-up process.

I just keeps giving me errors. I have never seen so many inept noobs all gathered together like this. I can relate with a lot of the frustration in the comments above. But the remote access functionality has come a long way.

I now use RHUB. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Please click on the following link to open the newsletter signup page: Ghacks Newsletter Sign up. Microsoft Windows Security Updates January overview. Photos app update for Windows 11 rolls out with a new interface and editing options. Here's how to install the new Media Player in the Windows 11 stable channel. I have installed and re-installed my Vista Home premium 2 times already because of Remote Desktop connection.

I have a problem connecting from another laptop running windows 7 to connect to my desktop running Vista. The remote operation works the other way around meaning from desktop running vista the laptop running windows 7 professional. I have gone though all the forum answers but nothing help.

Even in a command prompt running "sfc scannow" did not help. It says that it found corrupted files but it cannot fix all the corrupted files. Can anyone help? I have attached the screen shot of what I see in vista. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. I have 1 yr old Acer laptop computer that came with Windows 7 Home Premium Edition c already installed.

It's a 64 bit system. It does not indicate anywhere in computer properties that it is Service Pack 1 SP1. I have seen this indicated on other friends' computers. I went to the Microsoft site and it says that Service Pack 1 is a critical update and should be installed right away. It says I should use Windows Update to download Service Pack 1 but when I run Windows Update it says that my computer is up to date, no new updates available!

The Microsoft site also said it could be downloaded and installed manually, but only recommends this option for advanced users. What should I do? Leave it like it is or try downloading and installing it manually myself? If I do it manually, is there anything else I should know or do before installing it?

My computer works just fine as it is and I don't want to be messing it up. Please Help!! This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. I have the same question Report abuse.
